Amano’s latest all day cafe in Bankside is located in the heart of London’s new cultural district, from which it takes its name. It is minutes away from top attractions including Shakespeare’s Globe, Vinopolis, Tate Modern and Borough Market. The cafe is part of the Blue Fin building that is a high quality development by Land Securities.
The project involved creating different areas within the café for the morning, noon or night menus and enabling each area to be separately controlled. Following an initial consultation to establish the design intent and employer’s requirements, JPA were appointed by the Client to work closely with Rawfi sh Design Consultants to generate a cost effective, aesthetically pleasing and energy effi cient design solution.
The primary objective in designing the services installations was the need for all plant and equipment to be located within the unit. Air conditioning and ventilation plant was located within the ceiling voids, connecting to external louvres at high level.
The heart of the café is the flat bread and pizza base oven that required particular attention in the provision of gas and fl ueing arrangements. The unit incorporates a full back of house kitchen for the food that is prepared and cooked on the premises.
JPA ensured that energy effi cient technologies were incorporated to meet with the new Part L Building Regulations, through the specifi cation of inverter driven fans with PIR and CO2 sensors. These allow systems to operate at a lower duty outside peak times whilst maintaining design conditions.
